One of the greatest guitar luthiers in history, James L. D'Aquisto , started his career in arch-top guitar building at the age of 17 at John D'Angelico's studio. He founded his own D'Aquisto brand after the passing of John D'Angelico and is known to have created some of the best-sounding, most sought after arch-top guitars available until his untimely death at the age of 59 in 1995. The instruments he created in his later years are especially  desired and are highly regarded as the “Holy Grail” of arch-top guitars. They are still the inspiration for many arch-top guitar builders.
His creativity in arch-top guitar building is apparent in his design of the “Accutone” ebony bridge and his ebony tailpiece. Those innovative D'Aquisto arch-tops of the past are now revived to become part of the  new history of arch-top guitars, incorporating Old World craftsmanship with 21st century technology

DQ-NYE NEW YORKER ELECTRIC New Yorker was James D'Aquisto's most popular model of the 70's and it was during this time he established his originality and innovative designs. It features the unique head shape, sound hole and use of ebony for the fingerboard, tailpiece and bridge. The distinctive headstock inlay of the "New Yorker" is a faithful reissue of the original. DQ-NYE is fitted with a floating humbucker pickup. DQ-CRE CENTURA ELECTRIC Centura was a 1990's model that introduced some of D'Aquisto's boldest ideas, such as the "Acutone" bridge and an original sound hole design. Centura was one of D'Aquisto's later models, made at the height of his expertise. DQ-CRE is a smaller bodied semi hollow design fitted with a floating humbucker pickup. To create a very warm sound D'Aquisto decided that it would better to use laminated rather than solid timbers. He chose maple for the top, back and sides and, reflecting the guitar's purely electric design, a humbucker is mounted directly on to the body . Legendary Jazz guitarist Jim hall loved to use this model and the DQ-JZ features the same finish as Jim's original guitar. DQ-Solo SOLO Luthier James D'Aquisto was arguably the greatest archtop builder of all and the Solo model is one of the experimental designs representative of his final period. This is a very popular style although the 17 inch body and cutaway is a slight departure from the original design. DQ-TD TEAR DROP The tear drop guitar was an original design from master luthier John D'Angelico. D'Aquisto later used this same design while updating it by using the same specification as the 1992 Solo model. DQ-TD keeps the o riginal head stock shape but adds the "A cutone " bridge.
